Sunset 'n' Stripes

The best way of getting ready for back-to-school is celebrating the end of the summer! For such an occasion, I chose a vintage, striped, sailor-inspired combination.

Browsing the latest issue of Vogue, I was inspired to style an outfit whose individual elements would usually clash. I worked around red-navy striped tank top and mustard-black striped purse, complemented these with a dark blue, shiny, puffy skirt, added some jewelry - gold and colored - and enhanced the combination with a pair of grey high heels. In the end, I found the outfit represented what a summer should be: bold, bright, fresh, and fun... and the stripes really worked well!

Throughout the history of fashion, striped clothing was intended for those outside the social order, such as jugglers and prostitutes. Western civilizations dressed their slaves and servants, its crew members and convicts in stripes. For the last two centuries, stripes have adopted a more positive representation- youth and playfulness. This season, stripes are definitely in mainstream fashion, so let's celebrate the end of the summer in stripes!

 I was wearing:
 Marineria Italiana tank top
Sogna skirt
Joan Rivers necklace
vintage sunglasses, earrings, broches, bracelets
vintage Fendi purse
Costa Blanka heels
